We want to help churches do better marketing, but we don't know everything. So rather than pretend we do, we're offering the Church Marketing Lab, a chance to share your church communications experiments with your peers and offer feedback to others.

On July 22, 2005 we started our very first peer review—we posted marketing samples from a church and let people give their feedback. Sometimes the samples were works in progress and the suggestions helped to make a better final product, and sometimes the samples were already out the door and the critiques simply helped for the next time.

Either way, we posted samples from 24 different churches over a six-month period, and received entries from at least as many more. But each entry required hours of resizing images, re-writing descriptions and conversing with the submitting churches. It was far from an easy process for a designer to get feedback.

So we started brainstorming ways to speed up the process, and ended up with a public Flickr group. It's far from a perfect solution, but in our month long test period we had 40 people join the group and post 60 images.
