ReTHINK.Ministry: 7 Practical Steps to Revamp Digital Strategy

With six contributors and seven sequential steps, ReTHINK.Ministry: 7 Practical Steps to Help Ministries Launch or Revamp Their Current Digital Strategy is one complete foundation for developing a digital strategy for your church.

The purpose of this recently released e-book is stated right up front in the foreword by Katie Allred, with a sense of urgency that’s carried throughout the resource by the rest of the writers:

“Your church can no longer go without a digital strategy—the stakes of the gospel are too high.”

Although the book seems geared toward smaller churches and those with limited resources, any church would benefit from going through the steps they laid out. In step zero (which if considered an actual step, would bring the total to eight, but who’s counting) Kathryn Binkley discusses what strategy is and makes the case for why it matters. She then moves on to cover branding in step one. These two chapters set the basis for everything else covered in steps two through seven: content, owned digital (website and app), funding (online giving), communication, marketing and building a team.

Your church can no longer go without a digital strategy—the stakes of the gospel are too high.

The information in each chapter is clear, thorough and direct. Starting from scratch, each contributor covers the topics using language anyone would understand, especially someone totally new to the concept of a digital strategy. Additionally, estimated timelines and expected costs at the end of each section make this all the more valuable.

This resource is laid out in a straightforward manner, but the questions are not to be simply answered. And that’s a great thing. Many of the questions they propose churches start asking revolve around their communication and strategy could easily lead to multi-faceted discussions. Contributor Eboni Green sums it up well in the outro with a good dose of inspiration when she wrote:

“Building and executing a digital strategy is an excellent illustration of Romans 8:28. All things for good. All things for the goal.”

It seems the six contributors believe passionately that having a digital strategy is the key to reaching people in the world today. And they did a great job showing us how to do it, step by step.
