A Week in the Life: Leslie Zander

A Week in the Life: Leslie Zander

August 2, 2016 by

We’ve been connecting with church communicators each week this summer with our ‘A Week in the Life’ series.

Today we hear from Leslie Zander. She’s a graphic designer at Wheaton Bible Church in West Chicago, Ill. She also served on this year’s Creative Missions trip to Vermont.

Time is holding me back this week. I have a lot to do and a short amount of time in which to do it.

What’s on your plate this week?

As the only designer in a very large church serving many ministries and supporting our web, social media, video and worship staff, I always seem to have a list a mile long!

This week’s list includes but is not limited to:

  • Prepare weekly bulletin for print.
  • Design weekly graphics for website, enews and Sunday announcement slides.
  • Revisions for fall women’s Bible studies brochure.
  • Design brochure for junior high ministry.
  • Design logo and brochure for high school ministry.
  • Update design of existing support groups promotional materials.
  • Design of additional directional and inspirational signage for around the building.
  • Update design and content for welcome brochure.
  • Update design of our mission visual for upcoming fall sermon series.
  • Order business cards for new staff.
  • Conversation regarding design projects for new campus launching in September.
  • Work on concepts for upcoming sermon series.
  • Update other various existing print materials for the fall ministry launch.
  • Turn in expenses.

What are you most excited about right now?

We had open positions on our creative team, and I am really excited about the new staff members (and their talent) that God has brought to our team so we can better serve our ministries.

We are launching our second campus this September and I’m really excited to see what God does with that!

What’s holding you back this week and how will you overcome it?

Time is holding me back this week. I have a lot to do and a short amount of time in which to do it. I’ve just returned from a 10-day mission trip with my 16-year-old daughter, and I’m leaving again in four days for a family vacation. I’m going to be putting in a lot of extra hours this week in order to get everything done before I leave again. Plus, I’ll probably end up pulling out my laptop and doing some work on vacation as well. August is a busy month for me as all the ministries are gearing up to launch again in the fall, and my own kids are getting ready to go back to school.

What does your work space look like right now?

I think creative people are often stereotyped as being messy and unorganized. I don’t know it that is true or not, but I can’t function in chaos so my work space is generally very orderly. I did not clean this up for the photo!
