A Week in the Life: Brooke Reeves

A Week in the Life: Brooke Reeves

August 9, 2016 by

We’ve been connecting with church communicators each week this summer with our ‘A Week in the Life’ series.

Today we hear from Brook Reeves. She’s the communications director at Connection Pointe Christian Church in Brownsburg, Ind.

I’m reminding myself to live in the moment and enjoy the crazy because God is doing incredible things in our church.

What’s on your plate this week?

It’s back to school week in Brownsburg, Ind., so we made 2,700 invite kits for people to invite their friends and neighbors to church. The kits included a bag of popcorn, candy, an invite to our church and a card game. The goal was to create an easy way to have a conversation with someone you know but haven’t invited to Connection Pointe.

We are doing a web update, so we’ve been working on content development and some new layouts. Our fall series launches this weekend, and we are finishing up a few videos for that too.

We are also handing out some Connection Pointe swag in the parking lot to build some energy as people return to church this fall. It’s a busy week here, and we are still doing the normal program and slides for the weekend, processing communications requests, meeting with other teams about their needs, finishing up projects and all the other things that come along with communications.

What are you most excited about right now?

Our fall series! We are reviewing some of the values of our church, and my team had the opportunity to conduct video interviews for each Connection Pointe value. It was refreshing and inspiring to hear their stories, and I can’t wait to share them with our church family.

For our team, we are updating our website and app. It’s always fun to change things and make them more functional.

What’s holding you back this week and how will you overcome it?

The fall craziness is holding me back this week. Every July and August we hit a few weeks where it feels like there will be no end to the chaos and we are in that season right now. I know you’ve been there, so I’m trying to manage the to-do list (yes, that is paper to do list on my desk) and eliminate barriers for my team to do their jobs well. I’m trying to keep things rolling for them and help move processes along that are stuck so that we can get through this season smoothly. I’m also reminding myself to live in the moment and enjoy the crazy because God is doing some incredible things in our church.

What does your work space look like right now?

Confession: I took four coffee mugs off my desk a few days ago and cleaned up the day before I was asked to take this picture, so this is “clean” for me. I’m not at my desk a lot, so it’s more of a landing space than a working space. Please enjoy the carpet samples under my desk that have yet to find a home from our recent building project.

I’m in an open office concept with about 30 other people. My desk is in the front left of this row.
