The Social Media Mistakes Episode

February 16, 2016 by

The world of social media is always changing. It’s easy to find yourself getting comfortable with one new tool, while five more are launching, leaving you feeling behind. And with things changing so frequently it’s also easy to make mistakes. Luckily, a lot of the easiest mistakes to make can be easily avoided.

In this episode of the Church Marketing Podcast, Dave Shrein walks us through some of the more common mistakes made by churches in social media and provides practical tools and tips to help you not only avoid them, but succeed in overcoming them.

More About This Episode

Church Tech Today released an article on three social media mistakes churches make and that article is the basis for this episode. We address the mistakes noted in the article and then offer a few more mistakes church communicators frequently make. Dave will provide practical tips, tools, and challenges for the beginner and seasoned online communicator.

Are you unknowingly alienating your church, and hindering it from building genuine relationships online? If you’re using your social media accounts to just blast out information and your own agenda, using the “bullhorn approach,” you’re not connecting with your followers. It’s important to take the time to find out what the user cares about. Then leverage that to craft your posts, being more effective than just making it “all about me.”

There are a few other common mistakes church communicators make as well. Some become paralyzed by trying to take the right action at just the right time, and therefore take no action at all. Others just use every social media platform and software to shout their message. Amplifying your message does not help to clarify and connect with your followers. Your goal should always be to clarify your message with stories and ways that connect and build relationships, not just get your details broadcasted.
