Sustainability in Church Communication

Sustainability in Church Communication

December 7, 2015 by

The unrelenting pace of church communication can be a challenge. There’s always more that needs to be done than what can be done. How do you find a healthy and sustainable pace?

This is one of the topics covered during our Certification Lab.

Creating a communication team that’s healthy and sustainable starts with me being healthy and sustainable.

Watch as Certification Lab instructor Phil Bowdle talks about sustainability:

“A lot of people I talk to are in some state of chaos or overwhelmed. There’s always more that needs to be done than what can be done. So talking practically about some things I’ve screwed up about trying to create a healthy and sustainable pace for myself, and learning that creating a communication team that’s healthy and sustainable starts with me being healthy and sustainable, and building systems and foundations in a way that people can know what to expect and I can know what to expect, and also so that I can set up my team for success. A lot of people were in that place of needing the practical steps of what does it take to get in a place where you are healthy and sustainable. Because it’s exhausting to stay up all night or to wake up early every morning and try to get your task list done. It’s exhausting. It’s not really what we’re designed to do. We need this break and this space and we need our teams to be healthy. I think that’s a powerful thing that can happen, coming to the Cert Lab and learning what’s holding you backā€”is it a system, is it me? A lot of the people I talked to need to get over the fact that I can’t do everything. A lot of people have to get over the fact that you’re not always going to be liked. There are going to be times when you have to tell a ministry leader ‘no, I can’t I can’t do that and here’s why.’ I think overcoming some of those barriers for people is different for everybody, but it’s cool for everybody to be able to figure some of those things out over these couple days.” -Phil Bowdle
