Engagement.

Storytelling.

Relationships.

These are probably all words you’ve heard when learning about using social media for your church. In fact some of these are the foundation of your church’s social media presence.

Don’t get me wrong—those three elements are absolutely crucial to social media, but really they don’t mean anything if you have no results. That’s why in 2015 you need to pair these concepts with a solid social media strategy. If a strategy is the foundation of your church’s social media presence; engagement, storytelling and relationships are the building blocks.

Why Is a Strategy so Important?

Your church is in the business of reaching people, growing their faith and growing the church. If you have no way of measuring whether your social media presence is actually achieving those goals, then your social media efforts are pointless.

In 2015, social media is all about being able to measure tangible results from your efforts. When your church can show how engagement, storytelling and relationships are actually yielding measurable results and growing your church, real impact will occur.

What Does That Look Like?

There are three ways your church can grow with social media:

  1. Attract new visitors to your church with social media.
  2. Grow your current members with social media.
  3. Grow the generosity of your church with social media.

How Do I Grow My Church With Social Media?

I could write a whole book on how you can grow your church with social media (and there are several: The Social Church, The Social Media Gospel and Social Media Guide for Ministry to get you started), but for now I’ll highlight just a few practical things you can do:

  1. Align your social media content with your big idea.
  2. Identify and get to know your target audience.
  3. Create strategic content tailored for your target audience.

The Starting Point

This is just the starting point. There’s so much more to building a social media strategy that will grow your church, but if you can get started with these practical steps, then you’ll be well on your way to seeing real results.

Believe it or not, you can actually grow your church with social media. You just need the right foundation in place before you start building the house.

Social Church Academy

One way to improve is the Social Church Academy, an online resource from Josh Burns and Justin Wise designed to help churches grow their social media presence. Each month, members receive the resources, tools and access to expert interviews they need in order to grow their church with social media. It’s a $79 monthly membership, but they’ve got a limited-time $39 charter offer. We’ve got a further discount that can save you another $5, dropping it to $34, by using our code: CMSUCKS. This code expires on January 9. Click here to become a member today.
