2008: The Year in Ads

It's that time of year--2008 roundup lists are everywhere. All year, we get articles like Seven Ways to Turbocharge Your Productivity Output Efficiency and Twelve Optimized Brand-Solution Strategies. But for a few sacred weeks, in the vacuum between Christmas and New Year's, everyone lets us know their "best of" lists. So all you church marketers, here's AdAge's best advertising of 2008 and Media Bistro's 10 worst ad spots. Sadly, no churches made the "best-of" list. But they didn't make the "worst-of" either!

My personal list? I'm so glad you asked:

If you're tempted to not go watch them, please overcome. All three are very inspiring.

My favourite by far is this Ferrari/Shell ad...

The ads were good. The last one you listed, for Hovis, really went to great lengths to show how long they had been around. It really fit well with their slogan, As good today as it's always been. Well done!

I like the ads AdAge chose. And especially like Media Bistro's 10 worst list (although the Gillette ad is the ONLY commercial my mom has ever said she liked, so it might just be they're unclear of the target audience).

"Chalk" is very confusing if you have never seen LeBron James play so it is only for a niche audience. Also with the Hovis Bread ad, I only got about 50% of the references due to me not knowing Brittish history. I believe the test of a truly great ad is something that transcends cultures, educations and generations. Just my two cents.

My favorite was the back to school ad from Mastercard:

I noticed that the list involves a questionable albeit creative video for Diesel. You might rethink this particular ad as a part of your site.

There is a new Christian ad network that may help end your frustration at http://Christian-Ad.com.
