Church Bulletins Poll
(Filed under: Poll Results)Last week we asked about the ubiquitous church bulletin, the communication staple of churches everywhere. Well, apparently not everywhere, as 6% said they don't use a bulletin. The standard Xerox bulletin took the lead with 44%, followed by the fancy-schmancy types with 33%.
If you want to know more about church bulletins, check out the discussions in the Church Marketing Lab, including thoughts on bulletins, color bulletins and 11x17 bulletins.
Since we just celebrated our two-year anniversary, we thought it'd be fun to get a sense for how long people have been checking out CMS for this week's poll. With 50 votes in we have a ton of first-timers out front with 38%. Welcome to the madness. Those of you who are new might want to start with our new heart and soul series at our non-profit parent, the Center for Church Communication, on Why We Do What We Do.

Hey, I think this site is really cool. In fact, I would even say it generally doesn't suck. Oh, and our church uses a fancy-schmancy bulletin.

Our church members demand a bulletin. Just a week ago, it appeared thathad been hit by the Bulletin Bandit. Not a one in site! It seemed to our members the world was coming to an end. How could we possibly have "church" without a bulletin. However, it appeared our pastor had removed the bulletins temporarily .. taken them home on Saturday night.. and was late coming in for Sunday morning activities. (Don't even ask why...) The "Young at Heart" members... almost went into cardiac arrest for lack of a bulletin. My response, as secretary.. looking into their forlorn faces.. and their hands on hips....everyone standing outside their Sunday School classes... "Guess, what? God's still on the throne.. and yes, we are still going to have church. Everything will be alright!!!" Church .. get over it! Bulletin Dependancy is a close relation to Reserved Seats... don't even think about sitting in some of the seats of long-time members.. know there's a good topic!

Our bulletin is just 6 pages of promotion, some contact info, and a welcome tear-off, really. Often I feel we're giving people too much "stuff" that is possibly distracting from the services. Anyone doing anything REALLY EFFECTIVE or INNOVATIVE with the bulletin? I'd love to repurpose ours somewhat.

Well, my church uses a bullitain with a news insert. The bullitain itself is necessary to follow the service. We don't have any special welcome packet for visitors- we're small enough that the weclome comes from the church!

We are re-camping our bulletin, and I came here looking for innovative ideas, and although the content here is not exactly what I was looking for, I'm glad I landed here because the site is so good! Not to mention the comments.
