Larry Ross: Billy Graham's PR Man

We've talked about Billy Graham's publicity man before, but the New York Times spend seven pages on Larry Ross, so maybe he's worth another look.

"Moses stood there on top of a cliff, and as long as he held up his arms, the children of Israel won. Well, after a while he got tired, so there were two men that came and held up Moses' arms so they could win the battle. That's my job--to hold up the arms of the man of God, like Billy Graham or Rick Warren, in the media." -Larry Ross

The article covers the ins and outs of Christian public relations, but it's another good reminder about the importance of managing p.r. for churches.

Doesn't it every bother you to know that pretty much all the top Christian leaders are workaholics and or hire "madison ave" pr companies?

Funny how the Holy Spirit has little to do with success, but marketing has everything to do with it.

To me this is sad proof that what America considers as proof of God, is only proof of the power of marketing. Spirit has nothing to do with any of it.

I think you jump to a lot of conclusions and take a lot of credit away from God.

If you want the best in healthcare you go to the best doctor.

If you want the best produced movie, you hire the best production team.

If you want the best the best to handle all the media, you hire the best PR firm.

Kenneniah was in charge of the music - because God gifted him to do so.

Getting the right people in place is just smart, it doesn't take our reliance off of God but it does admit that you can't do it on your own and that you have to trust God to put the right people together.
