Churches Using Advertising
(Filed under: Advertising)The Boston Herald reports on churches using advertising, though the whopping two examples they give doesn't illustrate the trend very well. They spend most of their time talking about the United Church of Christ and their infamous "Bouncer" ad that was rejected last year, and their plans to run a similarly edgy ad this year. They also mention Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Cambridge, Mass. and the ads, billboards and postcards they've used.
"People who used to give you a blank stare when you said 'United Church of Christ' now remember that ad," Buford said. "In the public mind, we're not the same church we were" before debuting the TV ad.

So often, mainstream media quote other mainstream media, and the infamous UCC campaign might have been mentioned b/c it had been featured in other news, as in from last year. I'm surprised they didn't pull in the buzz that came from the Rolling Stone rejection of the Zondervan TNIV Bible ad campaign; well, tho' that's not exactly churches using advertising, maybe that's it.
