The Top 10 Posts of 2012

December 28, 2012 by

Finally, here are the top 10 Church Marketing Sucks posts of 2012:

10) Killing the Christmas Pageant – OK, we only posted this last week and admittedly it’s not the most popular story of the year. But we’re suckers for a good story showcasing how a church dared to challenge tradition and come up with a new and better way to share Jesus with their community. What’s not to love?

9) Ed Young’s Sexperiment – It’s Ed Young promoting his book by spending 24 hours in bed with his wife on top of his church. “Huh?” doesn’t begin to cover it.

8) Churches Reaching Out With Pinterest – The buzz around Pinterest may have subsided somewhat, but this was a timely and helpful post highlighting a church that put some special effort into Pinterest.

7) Fighting Over Chicken -How could we not give a nod to the Chick-fil-A fiasco?

6) First Impressions are Virtual – Church shopping happens online now. Is your church answering the right questions?

5) Lessons from the 2012 Olympics – The pageantry, the stories and bacon. McKayala is not impressed.

4) Tips and Tricks for Managing Communications – A brain dump of thoroughly practical ideas to keep your communications work organized.

3) Power to the Pews -While we often talk to the on-staff communicator, this series took the fight to the people, directly challenging and encouraging lay people to take some guerrilla action to make their churches communicate better.

2) Copy Matters – Design gets all the attention when we talk about marketing. But the copy is just as important (if not more so, says the writer). This series covers the ins and outs of good writing.

1) Church Communication Heroes – Throughout 2012 we’ve explored the lives of more than a dozen historic figures who can serve as inspiration for church communicators. It’s a way to remind ourselves that church communication is not a new problem, and also find encouragement from those who have gone before.

Thanks for another incredible year. See you in 2013.
