Local Lab: You’re Not Alone

Local Lab: You’re Not Alone

June 22, 2012 by

One of the under-utilized, under-appreciated and under-promoted projects around here is the Local Labs. These are simple local meetups of church communicators that happen around the country. We don’t run them, we just encourage you to connect with fellow church communicators in your area. It can be a powerful chance to connect, share, learn and help one another. You’re not alone!

There are a lot of informal groups around the country (and we try to list them) and some meet on a consistent basis. One of those is the Social Media Shepherds in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area in Minnesota. It’s a consistent group that’s been meeting for several years now in coffee shops, growing from a few folks gathered around a table to taking over an entire coffee shop with a presentation and group discussion.

I had the privilege of sharing with the Social Media Shepherds group this morning about our Power to the Pews series. We had a great turnout and good discussion. It’s so energizing to connect with other communicators. If you’re not meeting with other communicators in your area, do it. Find a Local Lab or start one. All you really need to do is call up a couple friends and meet for coffee. Invite others to join you. It’s that simple. And it can be so encouraging.

Here’s a quick recap of this morning’s event to give you a feel for the energy and encouragement that happens when you get a bunch of church communicators together: (if the embed isn’t working, you can get the full deal at Storify)
