Church Football Poll Results

August 29, 2007 by

2007_08_28footballpoll.jpgOnly one day until college football kicks off. A week after that comes the NFL. Last week, we asked if your church would use the inherent marketing power of pigskin. Here’s what you said:

Surprisingly, the majority of you declined. 39% of you, to be exact, will be missing out creatively pursuing other avenues. It’s something to appreciate that you guys are reaching beyond the football crowd.

23% of you will only be footballing for the biggest game of them all. I don’t think it’s tough to know if you put up a big screen late in January, approximately 250 million people will come.

20% of you are fired up about kicking off your football events. Just make sure you send me an invitation. What sort of marketing ideas are you guys using? Church fantasy football? Just weekend get-togethers?

17% of you probably will, assuming the NFL doesn’t sue you. Just make sure to research the broadcast rights if you plan to show games, and you should be fine.

This week, let us know what areas you think the local church needs an extreme church makeover.

I thought that this poll positively begged for an “other” category. Our parish, for example, has the only sports ministry program I know of in our area, but I’ve not detected much interest within the parish in the Super Bowl (or the NFL in general). I like to think that our people prefer participatory sports and recognize the NFL as $how-biz.

Actually, I was kind of disappointed by the lack of a choice for running a sports program. Our church does “Upward” flag football and that’s generally pretty popular both in and out of the church. We also run Basketball in the winter/spring. We don’t have the resources to do soccer as well at this time or we probably would.
That being said, we may have some informal superbowl parties, but after last year’s fiasco with the NFL suing churches, I just don’t think it’s worth it.

I’ve had a lot of people talk about Fantasy Football. Many, including myuself, are in their own leagues, but I think it would be pretty cool to do a “church” league.
A few times this year we are planning on having people over to eat pizza and yell at the TV. Nothing formal, just “come if you want and pitch in a few dollars for the ZAH!”

We have a church fantasy football (which I am not in), there is a small group that meets in a sports bar/restautant on Sunday’s. But for the first time, we are doing a NFL themed series called Season Tickets.
This is our frist journey into a NFL themed message.
