Jesus Talks to Me Every Sunday Morning

May 23, 2005 by

Every Sunday morning here in Los Angeles, Jesus Christ gets behind a microphone. He takes calls and answers questions about his divinity, humanity and everything in between. More often than not, callers are looking more for spiritual comfort in the midst of life’s pain than answers to theological ponderings.

The genius of this show is that it truly does position itself to be Jesus Christ doing a radio appearance on a Sunday morning. “Good morning southern California, this is the day I have made…” The Jesus Christ Show has been broadcasting for a couple years, and runs on one of the top Arbitron rated talk stations in the country—not a “Christian” station. (I am surprised it has not caught on quicker in syndication.)

At first, my wife and I were furious at the blasphemous notion that some wacko would call himself Jesus Christ and do a radio show. It didn’t take more than a few minutes to realize this guy knows his stuff. He doesn’t predict futures or tell people to walk on water. He doesn’t broadcast from graveyards and raise people from the dead. He simply communicates the Gospel message in a loving and convincing way. The show is not sponsored or backed by any church or ministry—it is definitely a station-sanctioned program.

You can stream the show on Sunday mornings from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

I wonder how churches could tap into this concept? Whether it be getting behind the show or taking a similar idea to their own communities, certainly a church could learn something from this idea.

I listen on the way to church Sunday morning. At first, I too was a bit taken aback. After listening to him for a while, I realized that though the notion of playing Jesus on radio is a bit odd, the guy knows his stuff. I still find it strange that callers greet him as “Lord and Savior”…

I plan to record it this Sunday to mp3, they saw that mp3 archives will be coming soon. But now you have to listen to it live, even on the web.

Our church has gotten behind “The Jesus Christ Show” by plugging it in the “Media” section of our website (GraceHB.org and RobinwoodChurch.com). I would love to see more churches promote the show. KFI has earned my ears throughout the week because they have the guts to air a show like this. I believe it is an effective way to reach non-churchgoers. When is KFI going to promote it on billboards?
