Finding a Church

March 24, 2005 by

You can bet finding a church is no easy task, as the Indianapolis Star points out. And you better believe marketing has a lot to do with whether or not people find your church. The article is packed with examples of marketing at work in the world of first impressions, including web sites, greeters, and yes, even the doctrine a church holds.

I had a hard time finding a good listing of churches in my vacinity. I know there are a ton around me, but I have to visit each one to find out what type of service it is, how many young adults are there, how the pastor preaches, what the doctrine is, etc. Church listings like the yellow pages rarely tell anything more than the denomination (which is becoming less and less useful in deciding what type of church it is). I found very few online listings that contained web site links. And when I did find a website, I usually found a nice picture of the pastor and his wife and very little about what the church is really like. Yes, I know you believe in God and Jesus as the only saviour. Would it really kill a church to be a bit more specific on their website about some dividing doctrines and how the services are really run?
Hmm… so that turned into a long rant.

What was the link to the Star? When I tried it, it said it didn’t work. I would really like to read the article.
    Thank you
